SGE's Board is comprised of six non-executive directors. Their role is to guide SGE into the future with managerial leadership and strategic guidance.
Julian Kennelly
Chair Non-Executive ‘Elected’ Director
Julian has been employed as the Manager of Media & Communication Services since 1994 with the Community and Public Sector Union, SPSF Group in Victoria. From April 1993 to July 1993 Julian was a media consultant with the Australian Services Union and from February until July of 1993 Julian was employed as a research officer with the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Victoria. October 1988 through to February 1993 saw Julian in the role as Electorate Officer – Neil Cole MP State Member for Melbourne. Since being elected to the Board in 2002, Julian is a member of the Governance, Nominations and Remuneration Committee, was Chair of the former Information Technology Committee, and is a Member of Australasian Credit Union Institute (ACUI) known now as Australasian Mutuals Institute (AMI). Julian has participated in a number of industry run courses that focus on Governance, Strategy and Risk. Julian is currently a Member of the Melbourne Cricket Club and the Essendon Football Club. He was previously an elected Councillor, City of Melbourne and formerly elected Director of City of Melbourne Employment Institute.
Alexander Hutchison
Vice Chair Non-Executive ‘Appointed’ Director
Alexander Hutchison is a legal practitioner. Alex’s main area of practice is financial services law. In particular, Alex assists organisations to meet their legal, compliance and risk management obligations and also advises on dispute resolution strategies.
Alex has over 20 years experience in the corporate and financial services sector. Alex has held senior roles in a number of large and mid tier financial services organisations. These roles were primarily either as General Counsel or CEO. Alex has extensive experience in working with the Australian Mutual sector particularly with credit unions. Alex also participates in a number of financial services industry working groups.
Alex has also held positions with the Australian Securities and Investments Comission (ASIC) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

Karin Hawkins
Chair to ARC Non-Executive ‘Appointed’ Director
Karin has extensive experience in corporate and mid-tier financial service companies having successfully held executive roles in strategy, risk management and sales. Karin’s past roles include Head of Prudential Supervision, NSW Financial Institutions Commission (FINCOM) in 1994-1998; Head of Risk Management, Wholesale Mortgages with ANZ in 2004-2006 and Executive Manager, Mortgages with ANZ in 2006-2008. Karin has also held a number of senior public sector roles including advisor to the NSW Premier and Treasurer.
Karin is currently the Asia Pacific Executive Advisor for the Corporate Leadership Council; Board Chair of Critical Stages Pty Ltd and a Director of Uniting Financial Services. She holds a Bachelor of Business (UTS); Master of Public Policy (Sydney); Master of Arts (MGSM); and is a Graduate of the AICD Company Directors Diploma.
Kathy Jackson
Non-Executive ‘Elected’ Director
Kathy Jackson is a prominent Australian union leader and the National
Secretary of the
Health Services Union of Australia. She is also a Vice President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions.
Jackson has been an official of the Health Services Union’s Number Three branch which represents highly skilled health professionals like radiographers, physiotherapists, radiation therapists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists and social workers since 1992, and is also the State Secretary of that branch. After doubling the size of that branch of the union with thousands of new members, she was elevated to the most senior position within the union, as its national leader in 2008, its first ever female national secretary.
In addition to that Jackson has extensive involvement in the financial services industry representing her members’ interests as a director of the Health Employees Superannuation Trust of Australia (HESTA), the country’s sixth largest industry fund by assets under management ($13 billion as at 2008). Jackson is also a member of the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors and the AEW Advisory Board in the United States.

Maurie O'Sullivan
Non-Executive ‘Appointed’ Director
Maurie was with the Department of Community Services for over twenty years as a District Officer and as an administrator. From 1993 to 1999 he was President of the Public Service Association and from 1999 to 2003 he was General Secretary.
Maurie was elected to the Board of SGE Credit Union in 2000 and was Chairman for four years to the end of 2009. He served as a Director of First State Super for almost fourteen years and was a member of the NSW Administrative Decisions Tribunal for eight years.
He is Treasurer of the Brehon Law Society of Australia.
He is a life member of the following bodies: The Gaelic Club, Sydney; Penrith Gaels, Kingswood; University of Wollongong Union; and University of Wollongong Sports Union.
He is a general member of the following bodies: The Sydney Cricket Ground; The Bowlers Club of NSW; Mittagong RSL Club; Dapto Leagues Club; The National Gallery of Australia; A Member of 2MBS-FM; and A Friend of the ABC.
Maurie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wollongong, with majors in Philosophy and HPS.

An experienced Chief Financial Officer, currently holding the part-time positions with the following organisations: Australia Zoo – Management Accounting Consultant; Mental Health Professionals Network Ltd – Finance Manager since the organisations inception (August 2008-current); Make-a-Wish Foundation of Australia - Acting General Manager – Operations (July 2011 – current)
Previous positions held have included: Acting Chief Financial Officer – Headspace – National Youth Mental Health Foundation (June 2008 – September 2009); Financial Services support to the Scopeco Group of Companies (March 2010 to June 2010); Executive Director, Finance for Northern Health the Health Service catering for Melbourne’s northern metropolitan suburbs. (July 2000 – April 2008); Finance Director of the Kingston Centre from 1988 to1997 and from 1997-2000 was Finance Manager – Aged Care and Clinical Programs, with the former North Western HealthCare Network.
Closely linked to his interest in Public Health administration, Trevor was from 2001-2003 the President of the Australian Health Services Financial Management Association (AHSFMA), holding various committee positions from 1994 to 2006. His involvement on the committee has spanned 12 of the 20 years the association has existed. Trevor also held a position on the Health Purchasing Victoria (HPV) Audit & Risk Committee (2005-2008)
